Fabric
When I went on a Saturday nite I personally found Fabric boring. Don't get me wrong, it’s a well laid out club full of gorgeous people and some big name dj's, but I didn't get into the music and therefore didn't enjoy it. The music policy on Fridays is drum & bass and Saturdays funky american house.
Freedom
I've been there several times and enjoy going. The crowd is really friendly and with the 4 different rooms you can sample the best of hard house, garage, american house and uplifting trance at any time during the nite. The door drugs policy is VERY strict, with bouncers giving u a thorough pat down, checking all wallets and bags, and sometimes taking your shoes off too. The only problem with the venue is there's no where clean and comfortable to chill out and sit down. The dress code is 'gorgeous', but not too strict.
Gatecrasher
Yah !!! I'm biased, but I loved the place when I went along. Its quite big, with two rooms to choose from, and plays just like the cd. They've become quite strict on the drugs policy after a police bust a while back and you will be searched.Dj's playing include DJ Teisto, Matt Hardwick, Judge Jules to name a few. Check out where all the cyber-dog clothing ends up.
Heaven
Heaven is made up of about 4 rooms, with another two separated to make another club around the corner. I've been on the Friday nite to "There", run by the Fevah boys & Girls, and had a great time. It is THE Gay club of London, if not England, and generally doesn't have a dress policy, so you can wear what feels comfortable.
Matrix
The last party was held at Bagleys Studios (home of Freedom). They had 5 different rooms of music and the atmosphere was wicked. Would definitely go again.
Ministry of Sound
I went there in 1995 and found it really pretentious. You go to say you've been there, and that's about it. These days they have a us house musical policy.
South Side Soul
Chill out every 2nd Sunday with the Kiwi boys & girls down in Brixton. A good place to relax during come down and the atmosphere is great. Music policy is as the name suggests, soulful house, although techno, jazz and many other styles have been played.
The End
I've been a couple times to catch Darren Emerson at the Underworld Parties held here every two months and he rocks. It's reportably got the best sound system in London and it is VERY loud. One of the best things I love about the place is the fact the dj booth in the main room is in the middle of the dance floor. You get to see the stars doing their thing and they can really read the crowd. They play a variety of music every weekend, and its best to check out the web site to see what's coming up.
Turnmills
Home of "The Gallery" on a Friday nite, "London Calling" & "Headstart" on Saturday nite, and "Trade" on Sunday morning. I've been to The Gallery a few times and had mixed nites. The Gallery main room musical policy seems to be progressive house, with a separate area of funky house, and a chill out zone. I've found that my best nites have been when a slightly commercial big name dj has been playing (Judge Jules, Tall Paul), although the club will be packed in the main room (uncomfortably so). There is a dress code and its best to get there early to avoid the queues. A normal pat down search on the door.
